In digikam's main settings one finds general settings for RAW demosaicing.

One can pick 8 bit/16 bit automatic demosaicing or "always show tool". I have set it to "always show tool". Post-processing settings are completely missing.

Now if I use the BQM it uses those settings for demosaicing but there seems to be no possibility to tell it whether to use 8 or 16 bit unless I switch to automatic demosaicing even for the normal image editor.

For post-processing there is no way either but to add separate tools for each.
