Description sash 2011-06-19 21:30:46 UTC
Version: 2.1.0 (using KDE 4.6.4)
OS: Linux

I want to enter and store passwords for my pop3 accounts.
This can only be done if i use kwallet. If I don't use it, the password field is deactivated.
I do not want to use kwallet for various reasons and I want to have the passwords stored.
This was fine on kmail 1.x

This bug makes kmail 2.x unusable.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
Disable kwallet, add/modify pop3 email account, try to enter password

Actual Results:
cannot enter password

Expected Results:
working password field

Bug 276228 is NOT a duplicate of this bug!
This bug is about not able to enter a password AT ALL.
I can enter an IMAP password which will be forgotten at the next shutdown.
This bug is about having at least the same feature for POP3.
Please unduplicate it again!

The basic cause and the wish for resolution is the same, though.

This bug: unable to use KMail2 for POP3 without kwallet.
Bug 276228: unable to use KMail2 for IMAP without kwallet.

yes and no.
They are the partially the same as I don't want to have kwallet.
BUT they differ as POP3 is unusable at all:
The password field gets disabled (or not enabled) if there is no kwallet.
That means I cannot use my POP3 Email accounts AT ALL.

Even if I don't want to save the password, I cannot use kmail with pop3.
I'm forced to use kwallet and clear the passwords again and again.

To sum it up:
this bug: enter a runtime password, bug 276228: save it permanently without kwallet.
Similar, but not the same.

Not true, the password will be asked during the mail check.

Storing the password over a longer period of time without a wallet is indeed not supported, therefore the password field is disabled, since it can not be stored anyway.
Everything else is covered in bug 276228.

Oh, and there was actually a bug if the wallet was completely disabled in the system settings, as opposed to POP3 being denied access to it, the POP3 resource would hang. See bug 279228, that is fixed now.
