Version: KDE 4 (using Devel) OS: Linux Kalarm is KDE's alarm system, but none of the sounds provided by KDE seem suitable for an alarm clock to me. It would be nice if kalarm came with a sound specifically designed for use as an alarm clock sound. Reproducible: Didn't try
This seems a nice idea, but there are two practical issues in implementing it: - How to present the option in the user interface - A sound file containing an alarm clock sound would be needed. Another issue would be that different people would probably like different alarm clock sounds, so inevitably there would be requests to make a choice available. That needs to be factored in when designing the feature as well. Any thoughts or pointers to sound files would be appreciated.
At least on my system, when I try to select a sound it popups up a file selector in the default KDE sound directory (/usr/share/sounds on my system). You can then pick a sound. None of those sounds seem suitable to me, though. All I am suggesting is sticking a sound file in there called something like "KAlarm-AlarmClock.ogg" or "KDE-AlarmClock.ogg". If you have different ideas about what sorts of alarm clock sounds people might like, you could have "KAlarm-AlarmClock-1.ogg", "KAlarm-AlarmClock-2.ogg", etc. Nothing fancy, just package one or more sound files with the KAlarm program. I know someone would still need to make the sound or sounds.
That sounds perfectly practical. I'll try to find a sound file with a compatible licence - if you can find anything, let me know.
