Version: 4.5 (KDE 4.6.2) (using KDE 4.6.3) OS: Linux Settings shown in Speaker Setup change when you go back after configuring them and the apply button lights up before anything is changed. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: If you try to configure Phonon in System Settings > Multimedia, the Apply button is highlighted before you do anything. If I then go to Speaker Setup, the sound card is set to my webcam which I can change to internal audio. If I go back to the main page and then back to Speaker Setup there are no sound cards available to select. Expected Results: System settings would remember the settings I already saved.
Confirmed on a new install of Kubuntu 11.04.
Do you mean System Settings -> Multimedia -> Phonon -> Device Preference tab? For me, in that tab, the Apply buton behaves correctly and the order of devices is kept after I change it. Maybe it is due to your devices then.

Maybe it is due to your devices then. Yes. I just have to activate the Phonon part then the Apply button is highlighted and I'll get prompted to save the settings if I navigate away. Upgraded to KDE 4.7.00 and the "Apply" button is still lit as soon as you visit the Phonon tab.

Confirmed on KDE 4.10.2 for the Apply button, but the configuration is made, so it is a visual glitch of the button, not Phonon specific as the same behavior is shown in Amarok, see bug 317328. There is a signal emitted when checking the debug output, but the button stays lit. No idea where to reassign this to, though...

This is not a bug in kdelibs. I cannot test the phonon settings, because I have no "Speaker Setup" button. Please attach a minimal testcase reproducing the bug.
(In reply to comment #8) > This is not a bug in kdelibs. I cannot test the phonon settings, because I > have no "Speaker Setup" button. Please attach a minimal testcase reproducing > the bug. Well, I have observed that in several apps, Amarok Settings Menu -> Configure Amarok for one, and the Monitor setup KCM. Clicking on the Apply button does apply the settings, but the button stays lit when it should become grayed out. This is in no way specific to Phonon or any other application, it is the Apply button that has a problem, which very much makes this a kdelibs -> kdeui bug IMHO
Yes, you can probably see this bug in several applications, there are even applications that fail to enable the Apply button when entries are changed, e.g. see bug 318218 This does not make it an kdelibs bug, as then it would be visible in all applications. Regarding the monitor settings, I just tried System Settings > Size & Orientation, changed the refresh rate, Apply got enabled, hit Apply, then after confirming the Apply button got disabled. Please add exact steps to reproduce.
Any steps for any KDE SC application to reproduce this bug?
To further investigate this issue, KDE developers need the information requested in comment #11. If you can provide it, or need help with finding that information, please add a comment.

It doesn't just happen in "Speaker Setup". In Kubuntu 12.10 using KDE SC 4.10.3 select "Multimedia" in system settings, then select "Phonon". The apply button will be enabled. Navigate back to System Settings and you will be prompted to Apply/Discard/Cancel. If it's backend dependant I use the VLC backend.
> select "Multimedia" in system settings, then select "Phonon". The apply button will be enabled. That is bug 311001 (which doesn't happen on my system, probably because I compiled it without canberra and/or pulseaudio support). It has a possible fix at https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/110390/
