Description Aurélien 2011-05-30 15:37:08 UTC
Version:           4.6 (using KDE 4.6.3)
OS:                Linux

A laptop has a dual screen with its internal and an external monitor. The external one is set as the primary monitor and everything goes well.

However if KDE is launched when the external monitor is unplugged the menubar is not showed and applications are not showed on the screen.

When I switch between applications started (Alt+tab) I can see they are still because their list appears on the screen but I can't see them or interact with them.

I guess that KDE doesn't configure the only monitor as the primary one and try to show the application on the "missing" monitor! It leads to an unusable KDE.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
* Configure dual monitors with a laptop and an external monitor
* Set the external monitor as the primary and configure this settings as default
* Exit KDE
* Unplug the external monitor
* Start KDE

Actual Results:
The menubar and the application are not showed on the laptop monitor. Impossible to interact with application.

Expected Results:
KDE should compare the available monitors to the default settings and try to adapt the configuration with the available monitors.

Then the menubar (which is normally showed on the primary monitor) have to be printed on the available monitor and all the applications should be showed on this monitor too.

hmm maybe wrong information from kephal or krandr? I assume with "menubar" you mean the Plasma panel, right?
Comment 2 Aurélien 2011-05-30 22:55:43 UTC
The only thing I know is that xrandr return in all case the correction information about monitors. And you're right, I was speaking about plasma (for "menubar" :)

This sounds like you configure a multiscreen setup (via xrandr), remove the primary monitor and wonder why you cannot see anything?!

First off, it's not sth. the windowmanager actually cares about (kwin doesn't control the desktop widget, thus the menubar size) or handles, nevertheless

a) is this still a problem?
b) what kind of gpu an monitors are here involved? More important: how are those monitors attached?
c) i assume there's no(t been) such problem with removing the secondary screen?
