In 4.6.3 a regression/bug was introduced that causes the caption for a file or folder change the wrapping temporarily. For example, I have a folder with a lot of files (oxygen images folder or so) and move my mouse around in the window. Upon hovering random files, the text wrapping changes to that the file extension gets wrapped to the next line.
I have no clue or no pattern that makes this bug reproducible but it definitly happens regardless of the dialog type (dolphin window or open/save dialog) or icon size or view.
I think this happens if you move your mouse away from a window right in the moment where the tooltip is supposed to be displayed but I cannot tell for sure. Also I do not know whether the amount of icons shown or the scroll bar visisble has anything to do with that.

Thanks for the report. It is a little bit unclear for me which "caption" you mean: The caption shown in the tooltip, the information panel or the file itself in the main-view? If the file itself is meant, could you please let us know which view-mode you are using? (icons, details or columns)

As you mention the open/save-dialog I guess you mean the file itself but in this case the issue is out of scope of Dolphin...

I use the icon view. I was talking about the filename that is under the icon, see attachment. Top: Normal, Bottom: Buggy.

Qt bug. Probably already got fixed, because I haven't seen it since some time.

Should become obsolete with Dolphin 2.0 anyway although I do not know if the File/Save dialogs use the new engine then as well.

Still encountering it from time to time on KDE 4.10.2 with Qt 4.8.4

Hi,

kdelibs (version 4 and earlier) is no longer maintained since a few years.

KDE Frameworks 5 or 6 might already have resolved this bug.

If not, please re-open against the matching framework if feasible or against the application that shows the issue.

We then can still dispatch it to the right Bugzilla product or component.
