I used to be able to right click on the kde menu and then there would be an option to add the application to the panel. This option not longer appears. Instead, only an option to add/remove the application from favorites appears.

It works fine for me. Is it still a problem for the reporter in recent versions(4.8.x) ?

Fixed in the regular classic kde menu if widgets are unlocked, not fixed in the lancelot menu.

Plasma 4 has been unsupported for several years, and I'm afraid this isn't relevant to Plasma 5.
