Description bugzilla 2011-05-27 17:01:15 UTC
Version: 2.0.85 (using KDE 4.5.4)
OS: MS Windows

Kile forgets the modified or newly-assigned shortcuts on closing, reverting to default shortcuts.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Kile
2. Assign a keyboard shortcut to a specific action.
3. Try the shortcut: it should work.
4. Close and reopen Kile. Shortcut has disappeared from the list.

Identical results obtained if one tries to modify an existing shortcut.

I am running Kile on Windows 7, on which I do not have administration rights.

I run it using KDE on Windows 4.5.4.

I managed to identify and workaround the problem. I had two kileui.rc
One in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\.kde\share\apps\kile
The other in: C:\MyPrograms\KDE\share\config (where KDE is installed)

The one in the installatin folder had: <kpartgui version="40" name="kile">
while the one in the user folder had: <kpartgui version="36" name="kile">

So I assumed kile loaded the one with the latest version, i.e. the one in the installation folder.

I think changes in shortcuts were saved to the file in the user folder, but since it was never loaded, it seems that new shortcuts "disappeared" on restarting Kile.

My workaround was to change the version number in the user folder 36->40 and lower the other one 40->38. So that now the user folder file is loaded.
