Description John Moore 2011-05-26 16:33:35 UTC
Application: polkit-kde-authentication-agent-1 (0.99.0)
KDE Platform Version: 4.6.2 (4.6.2)
Qt Version: 4.7.2
Operating System: Linux 2.6.38-8-generic-pae i686
Distribution: Ubuntu 11.04

-- Information about the crash:
KPackageKit correctly reports updates are available with an icon in the system tray. When I click the icon, KPackagekit window appears shoing the updates (with all selected) but I am not asked for authentication. When I click "Apply" I am presented with a window informing me of an authentication error.

At some (short) time after that, I get a crash notification in kpolicykit. There do not appear to be debug packages available for all libraries involved.

Workaround: when the update icon appears in the system tray, run `sudo apt-get upgrade` at the CLI instead of trying to apply the updates.

It seems like it is a dependency problem in Kubuntu. It seems that you did not install the "polkit-kde-1" package, which enables authorization.
Try via: "sudo apt-get install polkit-kde-1"

All it looks a downstream bug.
