Description Cristian Oneț 2011-05-24 13:01:54 UTC
Version: SVN trunk (using KDE 4.6.3)
OS: Linux

This is a description of the wish from the sourceforge tracker:

"For accountability purposes, it would be very useful to be able to attach an image (receipt, canceled check, etc) to a transaction; possibly through using a Sane frontend, or possibly by just allowing files to be attached and moved to a data directory.

Binary data could be stored separately from the transaction data for space reasons, so that the financial data could be easily moved, but the data store wouldn't have to go with it.

Another temp option:

More generally, would "attach an URL" also meet your needs? An URL can also be file:/foo/bar.jpeg and of course it should be clickable...

Quicken has a great implementation of this. Use the help on their support site to understand how they do this.

I currently have no great need of using this program unless this feature is implemented. It is really the main thing which will make using a computer so much better than paper - much more organized then a filing cabinet of paper - and less time consuming to look up later..."

Reproducible: Didn't try

I would also like to see this feature implemented, very useful at times.

Has this wish been abandoned? I would be very handy to attach an image or file to a transaction. Even a link would be good
Comment 4 Jack 2016-11-08 16:43:02 UTC
If it were abandoned, it would be closed. I think it does have good support. It's just not a high priority. Current developer time is all going to complete the porting to Frameworks.
Comment 5 Clive Riches 2016-11-10 15:23:36 UTC
Ok Thank you Jack. I just assumed it had been forgotten about as it was raised over 5 years ago. Even a clickable link would be good - at the moment you cant even select text in a transaction unless your editing it.

The GNOME program Denaro (previously Money) has a similar feature where you can attach a file to a transaction - maybe the developers can take some inspiration from this?
Comment 13 Jack 2023-01-25 15:57:09 UTC
I think the main problem here is not ideas on how to implement it, but lack of available developer time. This is basically a "nice to have" as desirable as it is for some users. The change of importance to HI was done by the bug janitor - probably as a result of additional votes. Unfortunately, I don't think the actual priority is any higher. As is often said, patches gratefully accepted.
