Created attachment 60171 [details] Screenshot of the bugged pager. Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.6.3) OS: Linux I have my desktop configured with a 4 rows x 2 columns pager. Sometimes, however, when I switch desktops the pager pop-up display instead shows 4 columns with two 2 rows. This hardly ever happens and when it does it can be fixed by simply opening the Pager config, changing the config by adding another column, applying the change and then finally reverting it back to the 4x2 setting I used. This would seem to indicate that the problem is config related. Unfortunately I have no clue how or why this happens. It usually seems to occur after I've had a system crash but I'm not sure this has always been the case. Take a look at the attached screenshot to get a look at the bugged behaviour. Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce

Comment on attachment 60172 [details] My plasma-desktop-appletsrc in the "broken" state Gah, looks like the problem is not in this file. Discovered this by trying the fix and then doing a file diff. Next time I will take a snap of my whole config directory and do a directory-wide diff.
I also have discovered this bug (using KDE SC 4.6.4). ** My System ** OS: Kubuntu 11.04 64-bit w/ KDE SC 4.6.4 Motherboard: ASRock X58 Extreme3 (Intel X58 chipset) CPU: Intel Core i7 (2.8 GHz quad-core) RAM: 12GB DDR3 Video: Dell NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX w/ 256 MB RAM (PCI Express) Sound Card #1: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Gold Sound Card #2: Echo Gina3G Linux Kernel: 2.6.38-8-generic NVIDIA video driver: 275.09.07 Screen Resolution: 1280 x 960
I can confirm that this bug still exists in KDE 4.7.0 (tested using Kubuntu Natty).
Same here. I have 4 desktops configured in one row, but sometimes layout changes to 2x2 (pager plasmoid still display 4x1). KDE 4.7.0
I have same issue since Fedora 14: KDE 4.5.2 if I cam remember, this appears on my Laptop with Kubuntu 11.04 too. OS: Fedora release 15 (Lovelock) KDE: 4.6.5-1.fc15.x86_64 Kernel: 2.6.40-4 x86_64 Desktop Effects: on OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation OpenGL renderer string: GeForce 7300 SE/7200 GS/PCI/SSE2 OpenGL version string: 2.1.2 NVIDIA 280.13 OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20 NVIDIA via Cg compiler Driver: NVIDIA Driver version: 280.13 GPU class: NV40/G70 OpenGL version: 2.1.2 GLSL version: 1.20 Description: I always use only 2 virtual desktops on same row (1 row or side-by-side), after I change settings for pager 2 desktops and 1 row and save, everything is OK. But, every time I restart my computer the virtual desktops positions switch to 2 rows mode (top and bottom), and on the page still showing 1 row configuration. To solve I change config to 2 rows, save, and back to 1 rows and save, avery time I restart my computer. I have enabled "Desktop Switch On-Screen Display", to drag windows form on desktop to another by moving to left or right screen edge, but after config loss (by restart), it not works on right or left edge, this start work on top or button edge. I have this issue near 1 year I think, and it appears on start of KDE, the number of desktop is restored correct, but not the layout. Maybe is related to: #275846 #276166 #273013 I expect this should help something. Thanks. PS:Sorry my bad English.
I am experiencing the same bug. I have 4 desktops configured in one row (4X1) and the layout changes to 2x2 everytime that I log out and back in. However, the pager plasmoid still display 4x1. This bug does not occur for as long as I don't logout. When I login I can get my correct layout back by going to pager settings and then change either the number or rows or the number of desktops. Then, when I change it back to 4X1 then everything works properly until I logout/login again. This is quite annoying since I have to modify the pager settings twice everytime that I login.
Also, I forgot to include my OS environment in the above post. I am running OpenSUSE 11.4 with KDE 4.7.
Created attachment 62918 [details] Screen shot of Desktop Pager Switching Bug. Attached is a screen shot of the bug as it appears on my OpenSUSE/KDE 4.7 system.

I was able to fix this issue on my installation as follows. I am using the KDE:Release:47 repo in OpenSUSE and I discovered that several of the kde packages were from a different repo. I have no idea why this occurred. So, I changed the repo management so that the KDE:Release:47 repo is used for all kde 4.7 packages and then updated all of the packages. Subsequently, the pager started working reliably 100% of the time. It appears to me that this problem occurred because the various kde 4.7 packages were from two different repos which makes sense to me. I recommend that the other folks posting to this bug check their repos to ensure that all kde 4.7 packages are from the same repo.
Thanks for the tip Gordon but I don't think you've actually fixed it and your fix doesn't actually make much sense. It shouldn't matter if the KDE 4.7 packages come from different repos, as long as they're from the same actual release. Also, I'm experiencing this issue on Sabayon which does not feature a repo set-up much like OpenSuses so your fix is not even an option for me...
The problem is back on my system after the latest KDE update. No joy here....
I'm not sure, but it seems I also have this bug :) Pager widget has cofiguration to align desktops in two columns and there are 6 desktops. So they are layouted in 3 rows and 2 columns. When I reboot system, widget show this layout, but real layout (e.g. desktop grid, or using move desktop left/right/up/down) is 2 rows and 3 columns. KDE 4.7.2, from openSuSE 11.4 KDE:Factory RPM's. Happens everytime.

as of 4.8 this is now handled by the window manager, not the pager. if anyone could try 4.8beta2 or newer and see if this addresses the synchronization issue, that would be great.
Since 4.8 beta2 all is ok. Now I'm using 4.8rc - all is fine too.
