Description erik6350 2011-05-14 16:56:25 UTC
Application: dolphin (1.6.1)
KDE Platform Version: 4.6.2 (4.6.2)
Qt Version: 4.7.3
Operating System: Linux 2.6.38-6.slh.1-aptosid-686 i686
Distribution: Debian GNU/Linux unstable (sid)

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed: I had opened dolphin with kdesu, so I that was able to modify files on my internal harddrive where Windows is installed on. For this I need to have root rights, because I use ntfs-3g on my aptosid operating system. After I have deleted some files with overall approx. 6 GB, I browsed throght my folders and wanted to open a folder when dolphin (root) suddenly dolphin has crashed. I have seen that there are bug reports with persons that have similar problems like "dolphin crashed after clicking on a PPT file on NTFS". Maybe this problem is related to the same bug, but I am not completely sure so I am sending this as a seperate Bug-Report. (following repos were activated for upgrading to KDE 4.6.2:
deb http://qt-kde.debian.net/debian experimental-snapshots main
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ experimental main contrib non-free)

New crash information added by DrKonqi

dolphin (1.6.1) on KDE Platform 4.6.2 (4.6.2) using Qt 4.7.3

- What I was doing when the application crashed:
(see bugreport 273272)
Same problem on the same System in the same folder.
Browsed the folder (VistaOS) /media/disk1part2/Program Data/Apple Computer/Installer Cache/iTunes 10.2.2.14/ and hovered an .msi file, so this bugreport might have additional existing duplicates.

Comment 2 Peter Penz 2011-05-14 18:35:05 UTC
Thanks for the report. This is an issue in the corresponding Strigi analyzer
that Dolphin uses to get the metadata of a file. Dolphin for KDE 4.7 won't
crash anymore in this case (see
http://ppenz.blogspot.com/2011/03/dont-crash-when-reading-metadata.html for
details).
