Description Britt Yazel 2011-05-14 15:47:38 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.6.2)
OS: Linux

So far from what I have used with KDE and multiple monitors, you can drag applications two and from each monitor BUT each screen has two separate plasma desktops. Both screens have their own desktop wallpaper, their own set of plasmoids, and when set to folder view MUST show two different folders on each screen or you will get duplicate icons.

This is very archaic when compared to what is offered as far as what has been offered with multiple monitors with Mac, Windows, and even Gnome.

I understand that some people like the multiple screens the way they are, but I absolutely do not. I would love to see an option (default or not) to where I can have ONE plasma desktop that spans both monitors. I like both of my screens to be treated as one large desktop, in which I can share my windows, files, have one large background, and even drag plasmoids back and forth.

I cannot stress the importance of this change enough. People using multiple monitors have 'for years' been staying away from KDE for the lack of seamless integration and the built in separation of the two screens which is archaic. With Unity and Gnome Shell causing a shift in users to KDE, now is the chance to make the changes that will be most hard hitting and noticeable. Please make using multiple monitors on KDE be a pleasant experience finally.

TLDR <>

1. Allow folder view to span both desktops so that I can have my ONE desktop folder span BOTH without duplication my icons on each screen
2. Allow me to set one background that can spread across both monitors. This has been present in nearly all mainstream operating systems since early 2000's.
3. Allow plasmoids to be shared between both screens, and can be dragged across.

Reproducible: Always

Sorry about the typo in my second paragraph. It has been a long day of filing bug reports ;-)

Hello!

This feature request was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this feature request. If the requested feature is still desired but not implemented in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham
