Description Armin Obersteiner 2011-05-04 14:31:11 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.5)
OS: Linux

locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8
font: fixed / misc /regular / 15

when i use vim to edit a UTF-8 text file *wide* characters are actually wide and not *fixed* size. when i use xterm and vim it works. (xterm also lets one specify a wide font to find characters).

xlsfonts shows me the right font is intalled:

-misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--15-140-75-75-c-90-iso10646-1

i presume konsole is using an iso-latin variant and a different fallback for wide characters.

so the bug can be:

1) konsole is not using the right font

or

2) a wide font needs to be configured like in xterm, but i don't see how and where

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
in konsole:

export LANG=en_US.UTF-8
choose font: fixed / misc / regular / 15
start vim with a file with e.g "m-dashes"
try to edit that line

Actual Results:
wide characters are *wide* and become normal when i'm over them in the cursor. such a line is un-editable...

Expected Results:
a fixed font is a fixed font.

tried on gentoo linux and netbsd. same results.

xterm let's us specify 2 fonts for fixed: for normal and wide chars
maybe konsole needs that too?

Armin thanks for the report and apologies for the delayed response.

Can you please confirm this is still an issue in konsole?
