Created attachment 59486 [details] I saved this game and this is the file that it produced but I cannot open it again. The queen is the one that I could not move. Version: 3.5 OS: Linux KPatience Gypsy occasionally has cards that cannot be moved if you try to lift the card by pointing in certain locations. In one example, the queen of hearts cannot be lifted if you point anywhere (horizontally) between the top of her hat and her eyes but she can be moved if you point anywhere else. In this example, it cleared itself without having to close the game/restart. I have never encountered this problem before in previous versions of Ubuntu (having played this game a lot) but have just upgraded to version Natty Narwhal 11.04 and I guess that KPat is upgraded also. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: Have played many games and it has happened perhaps 5 times. Difficult to reproduce as I am not sure what causes it Actual Results: Play the game - from memory is is always when a single card is being moved from one column to another rather than a pack. Default style used - no changes
Interesting. I'm really not sure what could be causing such odd behaviour. Firstly, you say that you can't open the saved game that you attached. Why? I was able to open it here without issue. Whatever the reason, could you please create a new bug report for that problem? Second, I am unable to reproduce the issue here using the attached saved game. This isn't necessarily surprising, since the issue may have nothing to do with the state of the cards and piles, but instead the state of the programs graphics scene. You said that the issue fixed itself. How exactly did that happen? Does changing the window size fix the issue? You reported the issue against Gypsy. Is that because it is the only game in which the issue appears, or because Gypsy is the only game you regularly play. I realise that this is asking a lot, but the next time it happens, would you be able to take a screenshot and then indicate (as best you can) on the screenshot the "dead" area? Thanks for the report.
Yes it is an odd one! The first 4 times it happened I just closed the program down and started again and the final time decided to report it as a bug so tried to investigate as far as I could. I suspect that me not being able to open the game is to do with the method that I was using. I located the file and double-clicked on it with the result that it opened as a text file within GEdit 20.30.4. If I open using the "load" or "load recent" from within KPat then it works fine. I guess this is normal. I did not notice any action that I took that solved the problem - It was frozen for about 5 minutes and the next it was working OK. I was not changing window size at the time but was swapping between windows and opening Firefox to fill out the bug report. I will try to reproduce the problem and see if it fixes itself without window changes and then with window changes. I have regularly played Gypsy, Spider, Freecell, Forty & Eight and occasionally Aces Up over the last couple of years and have only ever seen this problem with Gypsy and only since updating Ubuntu very recently. No problem with taking a screen shot and reporting back. Great program by the way! I guess this is normal. Well, in some ways it is a bug and one that I hope to fix in SC4.7 by creating a mimetype and a default .kpat extension for KPat saved games. That means that double-clicking a saved game should automatically fire up a new KPat window and load the game in it.
I have played quite a lot over the last two weeks and finally saw the effect again - so here is some additional information. The first screenshot is of the Gypsy game with a line around the card that I could not move. I was having problems with the 6 of clubs in the area shown and moved (back and forth) between it and the other cards. I was able to move the others but not the 6. Interestingly, I tried to take a screen shot accessing the "take screenshot" window via the new task bar on the left of the screen which (on my machine) includes the icon that makes the window appear. I then found that I could NOT press two of the buttons to complete the task. I managed to take the screenshot by pressing "Alt" and then "Prt Sc" keys. I include a second screenshot of the screenshot window to show the two areas where I was having problems. After swapping windows numerous times I eventually went back to Gypsy and the 6 of clubs had un-frozen - everything working normally. Hope this helps.
