it would be very nice to have a right-click popup to assign one or multiple selected transactions to a category, like it is possible to mark transactions.

anything to make data-entry easier!  I hate that part :^)

Some other ways that could make editing categories easier:
1) edit the strings used for auto-matching categories in the Categories section as well
2) ability to assign keyboard shortcuts for often-used categories
3) optional "Category" pane to show up on the right-hand side of the ledger where you can drag transactions into a category

Have you tried the 'Edit' action in the ledger while multiple transactions are selected and select the desired category from there?

Sure enough, that works.  Thanks!  I'll close the bug report out if I can.
