Description Emil Sedgh 2011-04-23 19:26:11 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.6.1)
OS: Linux

Amarok consumes ~15% of power on my laptop when playing.
When i pause, the power usage goes up to ~30%.

Notes:
1)This happens when Amarok is 'paused', not 'stopped'.
2)The only enabled plugin is last.fm
3)Conext bar is empty.
4)I tried vlc and xine backens. Happens on both.
6)I tried running it in valgrind. when its paused, i dont see any output.
7)I disabled 'watch folders for changes' option.

I use Amarok 2.4.0 from Debian sid and KDE 4.6.1 from debian's extra repositories.
All numbers are coming from powertop.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Open Amarok.
Play a song.
Pause it.
See power usage on powertop.

you talk about the CPU usage, right?
Tested with Amarok 2.4-git on KDE 4.6.2 today: 13% CPU when playing, 0% CPU when paused. I guess this is fixed already.
Comment 2 Emil Sedgh 2011-04-24 16:58:22 UTC
No, not cpu usage. cpu usage is fine here.
Im talking about battery usage. You can monitor that using 'powertop'.
Comment 3 Myriam Schweingruber 2011-04-24 17:13:28 UTC
Well, that really depends on the CPU and RAM usage, could you please check those instead?

Closing for lack of feedback. Feel free to reopen if you can still reproduce
this with Amarok 2.4.2 beta 1 or later and provide the necessary feedback.

htop showing amarok's cpu usage

I have this problem with Amarok 2.4.3 on KDE 4.7.2 (Kubuntu 11.10).
It happens only "sometimes", but still CPU goes up to 80-90-over 100% when paused, while stays around 10% when playing (and, if paused and then later "played" again, it goes down to that value after few minutes).
If there's anything else I can test, would be glad to do so

Michele: this is most likely already solved in the upcoming Amarok 2.5, to be released this week.
FWIW: you should not attach your comment to such old reports about previous versions, especially not to one closed as invalid. You probably meant bug 278897

I tried again using Amarok from master and im not able to reproduce this anymore.

Although, it was not about cpu usage. it was about battery usage.
