Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.6.2) OS: Linux When using the details view in dolphin, the area you have to hit to select a file when doing a rubber band selection is only as wide as the text for the file. This is especially useful in tree mode, since it often makes it easy to select the files within subfolders without selection the folders themselves. This is not the case in the file picker dialog. Here, the area is the whole width of the column. This is particularly troublesome when trying to open only the files in the sub-folders of the current folder but not the folder itself. Reproducible: Always
Confirmed, still an issue in KDE Frameworks 5.45. The equivalent macOS views allow the whole horizontal area to be used for selection just like here, but initiating a drag on an "empty" area will start a rubber band selection. Dragging on the icon or filename will drag that item as expected.
