Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.5) OS: other OS is PCBSD, or as it says in the about box, FreeBSD i286 8.2 RELEASE. In Kports 0.6.1.3.5.10 the cvsup command in the update feature should probably be csup. I always feel so discouraged and defeated when I see the label open source on software, to me it means unfinished, complicated or impossible to make work. I have tried multiple times to learn to use open source software, but it's absolute misery. I can't find any basic resources to start with and what I can find are examples that cover one specific topic without a broader perspective. There is no functional manual for everything you need to know. Sometimes I can manage to use a piece of open source software, and then something goes wrong and there's no chance of fixing it without a deep base of technical knowledge. I'm expecting to type this email and then find out that it wasn't sent because I didn't manually edit some config file. Haha, lol, sending the bug report failed! error message says Unable to send the bug report. Please submit a bug report manually... See http://bugs.kde.org/ for instructions. Server said: "555 5.5.4 Unsupported option: at" " How the heck am I supposed to deal with that, it's an error about reporting an error. My real question is, is NFS included in PCBSD and if so how do I turn it on? The BSD handbook fails to address it, and the help file is a not found error. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Open Kports click update Click start under number 1 Actual Results: Error message "Command 'cvsup -1 -g -L 1 /root/.kports/ports-supfile && echo kports_success' not found." Expected Results: upgrade the ports tree with csup instead Is there a manual or resource that can tell me everything I need to know about PC BSD with a similar level of quality to the edition of Macs for Dummies by David Pogue that dealt with OS 7? I'm having a miserable time, but I'm not giving up.
Sorry, the first line should say i386 instead of i286.
Adding someone who understands this better :)
CC'ing Kris from the PC-BSD team. aslan7, I'm sorry to hear your story. However, this seems to be a problem downstream, with PC-BSD itself, as Kports and PC-BSD are not maintained by us (the KDE folks). Let's see if Kris has anything to add here, otherwise I'm closing this bug as DOWNSTREAM in a few days.
OK, I'm closing the report, as the problems you describe seem to be PC-BSD-specific, so we cannot do anything about them. I suggest checking PC-BSD's support page (http://www.pcbsd.org/content/view/15/29/) in case you haven't seen it yet -- you'll find links to PC-BSD's bug tracker and also their IRC channel. Thanks.
