Description Dotan Cohen 2011-03-20 19:56:48 UTC
Version: unspecified
OS: Linux

Please provide an option to export an annotated PDF as a new PDF file that contains the annotations for viewing in other PDF readers. Thanks.

Reproducible: Always

Please search in the open bugs, thanks.

Thanks, Pino, but I am already familiar with that bug! This is not a dupe, although the idea requested here was in fact mentioned on that other bug.

Bug 151614 requests that the annotations be stored in the original PDF file. This bug requests that a new PDF file be exported that includes both the original PDF content and the annotations.

No, that is more for saving annotations *in* documents. I don't see any constraint to "the document itself".
We have already a system to save modified documents (File -> Save as), and right now only change values of form fields. You can guess what it will also do when that bug is solved.

Pino, I insist that the suggestions and resolution proposed in bug 151614 are not relevant here.

Bug 151614 identifies a problem (the current way that Okular stores annotations) and presents at least three solutions, one of which is to store the annotations in the PDF document. However, that is not what is being requested here. This bug is requesting to Export (or "Save As") a _new_ PDF that contains the content of the annotations. However, they will no longer be annotations in this new exported document, they will be right there in the postscript. There will be no way to find them in the Okular sidebar, there will be no way to delete them. They will no longer be annotations, and therefore this RFE is _not_ a resolution to bug 151614. I agree that for some specific use cases this RFE may provide a workaround for the problem identified in bug 151614, however it is obviously _not_ a solution for that bug, nor is it intended to be.

Instead of insisting, why didn't you explain that in the bug report description, as opposed to the two telegraphic text lines you wrote? Especially that your comment #2 continues explaining the very same thing as bug #151614.

Back to this problem, writing a new PDF document in a custom way (i.e. without using the "print to pdf" feature Qt provides) out of the blue is not really doable, no.
