additional information - i've plenty of pop filters - all email from my couple of accounts goes to Trash - unless i have a filter to pull it out of trash.

also a few hours earlier i'd tar'd up .kde4/share/*/kmail* to move my kmail4 world from my 11.3 laptop to new 11.4 laptop - had fetched email on my accounts many times though. perhaps was a maintenance thread that kicked off but the folders/environment was not initialized as expected somewhere from my having tar'd it off another machine? something to do with the archive process?

hope that helps. will be glad to give more information if i can, but this only happened once so could just chock it up to sun spots...

/j
