Description Xavier Hourcade 2011-03-14 18:58:06 UTC
Version: 1.0.80 (using KDE 4.5.5)
OS: Linux

When including "some" form of URL in a chat message, the current message is lost without warning, as well as all subsequent messages sent using the same chat window.

Using Bonjour protocol over LAN only, don't know if this is applicable to any other.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
1. start a normal conversation over Bonjour/LAN, messages are sent fine
2. send any message that include the following URL (alone or at any position)
   http://www.hoaxbuster.com/hoaxteam/forum_contributions.php?idForum=1234&idMess=5678
   it get lost
3. send further simple text, it also gets lost
4. close the chat window, open a new one and send more messages, they are sent

Actual Results:
All sent messages are "lost" from this point onwards (they don't reach the recipient, but appear however in the conversation log, while incoming messages are still received and displayed in the chat window).

No warning is displayed, so the only way to realize this is ... discussing with the recipient by other means.

Closing the chat window and opening a new one, restore the send function.

Expected Results:
All messages are sent disregarding to their contents.
If not, at least some warning should be displayed.

OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.35.10-74.fc14.x86_64
Compiler: gcc

Kopete as installed by default under Fedora 14 KDE.

(cf. severity (?) not sure how BZ's meaning of "data loss" is applicable here. Still, I assume this kind of data loss just defeats the whole purpose of using kopete in this context)
Comment 1 Xavier Hourcade 2012-05-28 18:08:19 UTC
Bug is still present in
Kopete 1.2.3 / KDE 4.8.3 (latest stable from Fedora @updates repository)
    # rpm -q kdenetwork-kopete
    kdenetwork-kopete-4.8.3-1.fc16.x86_64
(Please update version list for this component, latest selectable here is 1.0.80.)

Reproducible:
    Always

Additional info
May occur without URL, but a very long text message (e.g. around a screen long)

This is just a note to say that this bug still exists. All messages sent over LAN with Kopete / bonjour do not arrive at destination. When running kopete in terminal on both computers, the text can be seen to arrive in receiver computer's terminal but doesn't appear in kopete.

As far as Bonjour/Zeroconf with Kopete is concerned message transfer works again but file transfer is still broken. The use of Pidgin, Gajim etc. confirms that Avahi is set up correctly since I'm able to communicate and transfer files over the network without error.

Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
