This isn't technically feasible. We support all the themes on adiumxtras.org, a lot cannot have their background changed. This one is picture for example: http://www.adiumxtras.com/images/pictures/pushpin_5_366_198_image_8599.jpg Given that the whole thing is already themeable, it's not really an issue. Marking as wishlist, though tbh I can't think of any fix that doesn't have ramifications to supporting themes.
Just for clarification: I'm happy with custom background support like some Adium does However it should only be done when theme allows it - there's a flag in the PList file saying whether it should allow override or not, and contains default. We should use these defaults, regardless of the KDE system theme. It's the mapping KDE Colours to Adium themes that is impractical, not the notion of supporting the different backgrounds. Must be done properly - append to extraStyleHtml - worth reading the Adium source code again.
ok... since this can be solved easier... we can provide a darkscheme colour... in this way we are conform with the kde accessibility policy... I added an attach with a dark theme modified from renkoo

What’s the status on this? Will the project just provide the dark theme, or should it still “be done properly”?
Finally getting round to confirming this bug :) Hopefully will fix soon.
I wonder if we could create an adium theme based on system colors, which would update when system colors change...
