Description Wonko 2011-03-11 01:09:30 UTC
Version: 1.6.6 (using KDE 4.6.1)
OS: Linux

My date column is gone. Clicking with the right mouse button, I can enable Title, Feed, Author and Date, but the date column does not appear.

The date column is back when I select a folder instead of a feed. Articles are sorted by date then if I desire, but when I select an individual feed, the column is gone again, and articles are sorted by title.

I upgraded from KDE 4.6.0 to 4.6.1 two days ago, so this may be related to the upgrade. Although the whole kontact suite has not been upgraded, it is still at version 4.4.10. But I noticed at least for one day that the articles had no date displayed. But they were still sorted by date, so I did not care much. I guess I accidentally clicked on the title column, and now I cannot revert to sorting by date.

Reproducible: Didn't try

I was able to fix this by replacing akregatorrc by an older version. Here is the diff:
wonko@weird ~/.kde4/share/config $ diff akregatorrc.backup akregatorrc.current

BTW, since the problem occured, my plasma-desktop is crashing every ten minutes or so. Just in case this might be somehow related, which I doubt.

I'm using akregator inside kontact.

Reproducible with Akregator standalone ?

There were no change in this area in kdepim 4.4.10.

Try renaming or deleting ~/.kde4/share/apps/kontact/default-akregator.rc before starting Kontact and see if you're still having the issue

I put the working ArticleListFeedHeaders string in the first line, and the one that gives the probem into the second line. So you can easily see the differences.
Comment 3 Wonko 2011-03-11 13:44:20 UTC
Yes, also happens with Akregator standalone.

And as I wrote, restoring an older akregatorrc solves the problem, so I guess without one it should work, too.

I tried to reproduce the effect, and I can confirm the problem ist the
ArticleListFeedHeaders line.
If I set ArticleListGroupHeaders to the same string, the date column is missing when a folder is selected, too.

I can confirm the problem and the solution.

I'm ussing akregator-1.6.6 as a stand alone program in kde-4.7_beta1
Comment 5 Cruz Enrique 2011-05-27 00:37:06 UTC
The problem has reapeared when I have removed the feed column.
Comment 6 Björn Hendriks 2013-04-30 20:58:40 UTC
I can confirm this problem with Akregator 1.6.6, both standalone and embedded.

The problem appeared after I edited

~/.kde/share/apps/akregator/data/feeds.opml

to manually merge in outline-tags of another OS-instance. The added feeds appeared in Akregator but the date columns of all feeds were gone. Deleting akregatorrc recovered them.

A little side-observation: turning on and off of the date column changed the length of the horizontal column slider by about a pixel.

This bug still exists for me in KDE 4.12.1, using Akregator 1.6.6 on SolydK (based on Debian Testing). Unfortunatey, I didn't check if this happens with the preconfigured Linux- and KDE-related feeds, as well. I directly deleted them and imported my feedlist as opml. The right-click menu showed the checkbox for the date column, but the column was missing. Deleting akretatorrc solved the issue.

This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of akregator (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.08 or later), it gets closed in about three months.
Comment 9 Denis Kurz 2017-01-07 22:44:00 UTC
Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
