Created attachment 57766 [details] Desktop 1 Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.6.1) OS: Linux Grid Desktop is broken in KDE 4.6.1 (also 4.6.0) when configured as DualHead. I have screen setup as can be seen in the attached screenshot. Main panel is unable to maximize the main screen (it takes only about 80% and leaves free space at the right and left side. It's configuration panel is not aligned. Sometimes configuration panel appears at the top of the screen. It is not possible to drag plasmoids to the other screen. They stuck on the first screen. Desktop grid is broken. Grids configuration bar appears in the screen, and grid itself is only at the right side of the screen (see screenshot). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1] configure DualHead with nVidia graphic (1920x1200 and 1680x1050 LCD) 2] switch desktop to Grid Desktop layout 3] try to configure main panel or drag widgets to the second screen. I can confirm this issue here: -Kde SC 4.6.2 (also on other 4.6.X) -Nvidia-Drivers 270.30 -2x 1920x1080 Monitors The symptoms are exactly the same.
I can confirm this too. - KDE SC 4.6.3 (same as in the versions before). - newest closed nvidia drivers - main screen (internal) 1680x1050 on the right side and a external screen 1920x1200 or 1280x1024 on the left side. The screen-setup is done with nvidia-settings
Yes, still persist in KDE SC 4.6.3 - total brokenness.
KDE SC 4.6.4, nvidia-drivers 275.09.07, still completely broken.
Hi there, The very same problem is occurring with an Intel 82G35 video card. Should I open a new issue?
It seems to be graphic card independent issue. I do some test with nvidia binary driver and also with nouveau driver. I first case is desktop crippled and in the second one plasma crashes instantly. Bug persist in KDE SC 4.7.0. It is obvious that bug is caused by dual/multi head screen setup. In single headed setup grid desktop works fine.

*** Bug 285253 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
This bug should be marked as CONFIRMED?!
I have the same experience with kde 4.8.0 After stopping and restarting the activity, the grid layout behaves a bit better, but still seems to restrict its size to the resolution of the smaller screen.
Grid and content appears normally on singlescreen - dualhead makes the grid disappear. But the Grid and all content comes back when switching to singlehead.
Same issue (still) here: Lenovo W520 (nVidia Quadro 1000M) Kubuntu 12.04 with KDE 4.8.5 nVidia 310.14 drivers 1600x900 laptop monitor plus either a 1680x1050 through VGA or 1920x1080 through DisplayPort.
Same issue. Chakra Linux with KDE 4.10.00 ATI Catalyst 13.1 drivers 1920x1080 monitor + 1280x1024 monitor
Is anybody working on it?! It is Platformindependent too - maybe we should reopen this bug?!
Workaround/Solution: Put your plasmoids in a Stacking/Tabbing Group, Change from Grid-Desktop to Desktopgroup( It says Arbeitsflächengruppierung in german) - Tested with Kde 4.10.2
Hello! This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug is already resolved in Plasma 5. Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging Thanks for your understanding!
