Description Benjamin Xiao 2011-03-07 01:07:51 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.6.1)
OS: Linux

If you click on the QuickAccess widget and click "Open: /home/username", Dolphin will not display the contents of /home/username at first. You have to press F5 to refresh the folder in order to see the folder contents. Clicking "Open:" on any other folder works. Only the home folder does not work.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.) Add QuickAccess widget to panel
2.) Click on the widget in the panel
3.) While browsing the home folder using the widget, click "Open: /home/username" on the top.
4.) Notice that dolphin displays nothing.
5.) Press F5 to refresh folder and view folder contents

Actual Results:
Dolphin does not display home folder contents when launched from QuickAccess widget

Expected Results:
Dolphin DOES display home folder contents

This bug also affects me.
I can also reproduce this bug by opening the Home folder from the Desktop Folder View or from opening it from the Application Launcher menu.

I've found a working workaround here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=109&t=67644

"Open Dolphin and click settings-configure dolphin. In the location box you will see file:///home/your username. Remove your username so it will read file:///home/ Then click apply and OK"

It works but it is a bit strange...

Sincerely,

Tom Desair

Looks like this is a non-distro related bug. Same here with Arch Linux.

THX Tom, this workaround works here too :-)

This is independent from the Quickaccess widget. Open konsole and type "dolphin file:///home/yourusername" and it starts with a blank view of your personal folder. What konsole tells me is:

QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_ad_watch failed: file or folder not found.
QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /home/me/.config/ibus/bus
Bus::open: Can not get ibus-daemon's address.
IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connectiton to ibus-daemon
QPixmap::scaled: Pixmap is a null pixmap

But it also says this when I type "dolphin file:///home/me/bin - which is displayed correctly.

When I change the path in dolphin to file:///home I get my home folder shown when I call dolphin via the quickaccess widget. BUT when I execute "dolphin file:///home" (testcase, I wouldn't use it that way) dolphin opens with a blank /home directory.

So this tells me, dolphin is not able to display the content of a folder when the called folder is the same that is chosen in dolphin's settings.

With this workaround you can only open dolphin with your home folder via quickaccess because you have changed the address in dolphin to another one. Try to set the address in dolphin to e.g. file:///home/yourusername/Desktop and then change the address in quickaccess to the same folder. Dolphin won't be able to show the content of the folder without refresh.

I also see this when launching it from the message that my home folder has to few space left. blank dolphin.
Interesting is that when then I opan ANOTHER dolphin (which shows $home correctly, the first one "revives" itself and refreshes to the correct $home automatically in the background.
