Version: 2.0.2 (using KDE 4.4.3) OS: Linux I try to overwrite an used BD-RE with an debian bd iso image. If I try I get a message I should insert an empty media in the bdr-drive. I tried to use that overwriting is possible in principle by the following: pierre@nihilnihil:~/squeeze$ growisofs -dvd-compat -speed=1 -Z /dev/dvd=debian-6.0.0-amd64-BD-1.iso WARNING: /dev/dvd already carries isofs! About to execute 'builtin_dd if=debian-6.0.0-amd64-BD-1.iso of=/dev/dvd obs=32k seek=0' /dev/dvd: "Current Write Speed" is 2.0x4390KBps. 2359296/22992447488 ( 0.0%) @0.0x, remaining 812:02 RBU 100.0% UBU 1.4% 2359296/22992447488 ( 0.0%) @0.0x, remaining 1299:15 RBU 100.0% UBU 100.0% 10485760/22992447488 ( 0.0%) @0.5x, remaining 438:20 RBU 100.0% UBU 90.3% 23855104/22992447488 ( 0.1%) @0.9x, remaining 240:42 RBU 99.6% UBU 95.8% 36896768/22992447488 ( 0.2%) @0.9x, remaining 186:38 RBU 100.0% UBU 95.8% 50724864/22992447488 ( 0.2%) @0.9x, remaining 165:50 RBU 100.0% UBU 95.8% 63307776/22992447488 ( 0.3%) @0.8x, remaining 150:54 RBU 100.0% UBU 93.1% .... So I think K3B did not know that bd-re media can overwritten without erase it before. Now test it with an clean fresh new BD-RE media: After selecting the iso image and try to start the burn procedure: K3B wants to format the BD-RE: ok that is possible and looks like good. After that K3B needs an clean BD-RE again so it is not possible to burn an iso image directly with K3B. I checked the burning of my second debian BD manually again with pierre@nihilnihil:~/squeeze$ growisofs -dvd-compat -speed=1 -Z /dev/dvd=debian-6.0.0-amd64-BD-2.iso wich works here fine, too. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Insert an new or used BD-RE media in the BD writer. Try to burn an iso image e.g. Debian BD iso image. Actual Results: With new media: K3B format it fine. But then K3B needs an clean media. With used media: K3B wants an clean media. K3B can try to clean/format it, but this is not possibel with BD-RE. They can be overwritten without cleaning it before. Expected Results: No iso image could been written to an bd-re with K3B. OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.32-5-amd64 Compiler: cc -- Package-specific info: Device was not specified. Frustrating that I have to boot up windows just to erase a rewritable CD because yet again a KDE application doesn't work.
Hello, for overwriting erasing/reformat is normally not needed on BD-RE. This is a problem wich looks like K3B not handled correctly. If you created an iso image with K3B you can write in on the media with growisofs -dvd-compat -speed=1 -Z /dev/dvd=debian-6.0.0-amd64-BD-1.iso which has been worked for me. Formatting a new clean BD-RE has been worked in K3B but this will not fixed the problem with writing the data to the media. Cheers... Pierre
Are there any news here. How can I help to get an fix for that problem? I could not code an fix but hopefully there is another help needed for that problem. It should not be so hard to fix that. In my opinion the new media check must be modified here that an extension of dan BD must be used (growisofs) and so a re-use BD-RE fix must be coded. So I hope it will be available in wheeze.

Now it's more corrupt than before. I cannot also use empty clean BD-RE Medias although the free space is bigger than the iso image size. I've not used BD's and esp. BD-RE for a decade so I haven't any media on my desk. But the drive is still here and so I'll spent some money to buy a 5 pack BD-RE and will test it again. But it need some days of preparing.
I got 5 new 25GiB Verbatim BD-RE Medias. The drive is still the same as before but software has to been already updated to newer one. What is been found if I insert a clean empty Media is that it is identified only as an BD-R media instead of an BD-RE media by K3B now Copy and Paste from K3B media information overview in main window.: Medium Typ: BD-CD-R Kapazität: 2715:25:17 Minuten (23,3 GiB) Verbleibend: 2715:25:17 Minuten (23,3 GiB) Wiederbeschreibbar: ja Weiter beschreibbar: ja Leer: ja Schichten: 1 Sitzungen: 0 Unterstützte Brenngeschwindigkeiten: 2.0x (8992 KB/s) Additional marks: I also tried to directly create an session on fresh media it without using the to burn an iso file doesn't accept the clean or an formatted media. It want's an real BD-R media which I didn't have it so cannot check that this is an problem related to the BD-RE or also for BD-R. So I created first ISO Image without burning and erasing after burn feature of K3B. Then I must format the media. Then I could burn the iso on the media with K3B. Medium Typ: BD-CD-R Kapazität: 2628:02:26 Minuten (22,6 GiB) Verwendete Kapazität: 1269:13:09 Minuten (10,9 GiB) Verbleibend: 1358:49:17 Minuten (11,7 GiB) Wiederbeschreibbar: ja Weiter beschreibbar: ja Leer: nein Schichten: 1 Sitzungen: 1 Unterstützte Brenngeschwindigkeiten: 2.0x (8992 KB/s) ISO-9660-Dateisysteminformationen System-ID: LINUX Datenträger-ID: Anime-Songs Datenträgersatz-ID: - Veröffentlicher-ID: - Vorbereiter-ID: - Programm-ID: K3B THE CD KREATOR (C) 1998-2017 SEBASTIAN TRUEG, MICHAL MALEK AND LESLIE ZHAI Datenträgergröße: 10,9 GiB (2048 B * 5711484 Blöcke = 11697119232 B) Titel Typ Attribute Erster-Letzter Sektor Länge 1 (Daten) Kopie nicht erlaubt/ununterbrochen 0 - 11826175 11826176 (2628:02:26) I tried to re-burn same iso again without formatting or preparing something and B3B ask me 2 times to overwrite the same media. After second confirmation the burn process has to been started and could be finished. So the problem looks like be solved. Why the problem described below 'Additional marks' exits should be described in another bug report. The same maybe that the BD-RE is only identified as BD-R media. So fixed latest: k3b 18.08.1
