screenshot of the maximized window on the left screen being overlapped by the pannel

Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.5)
OS: Linux

In dual monitor setup, when you place the panel on the edge adjacent to the second screen, windows on the screen with the panel get maximized to the whole screen including the area already occupied by the panel, thus getting partly hidden by the overlapping panel.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Connect a second display
2. Set your primary screen to absolute position
3. Set the position of the secondary screen to right of your primary screen
4. Move the plasma panel to the righthand edge of the primary screen
5. Open some window on the primary screen and maximize it

Actual Results:
The window is maximized to the area of the whole primary screen. Part of the window at the right is hidden by the panel.

Expected Results:
At the righthand side, the window is maximized only to the edge of the panel, not the edge of the screen. Nothing overlaps, nothing gets hidden.

One picture for thousand words, see the attached screenshot.

I can confirm this rather annoying issue is still present in most recent git/SVN snapshot. It happens when the panel is on the left side of the secondary screen as well.
Comment 2 Pierre Buard 2011-10-26 15:56:59 UTC
Reproducible on KDE 4.7.2 with a vertical panel on the left side of the main screen; the secondary being also on the left.

Comment 5 Andrey 2012-09-18 08:19:07 UTC
Still valid on 4.9.1.
Any plans to fix it?
Comment 6 Dominik Pospisil 2013-08-01 10:03:25 UTC
Still valid in 4.10.5 :(
Comment 7 Martin Kimmerle 2014-04-07 11:50:10 UTC
Seems this is a Wontfix and might not be fixed before Wayland. See bug 94470 comment 57.

Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug has already been resolved in Plasma 5.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham
