Description h.schoettke 2011-02-16 13:12:57 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.4.5)
OS: Linux

Whenever I try to play a video-file (also when I try to acces xine's preferences), the GUI freezes. This happens with various media-players (SMPlayer, KMPlayer, VLC, xine) First the mouse-curser still moves, but as time passes by, even the keyboard does not cause any action (CTRL+ALT+F1 to get to tty1 does not work). The only way to acces to the computer is via ssh. When I enter "invoke-rc.d kdm restart" the GUI restarts, when I do this before the total freeze. The only remaining problem with the restart of the GUI is, that the screen remains totally black, even after logging on by guessing where there should be username and password-fields on kdm (the curser indicates when being moved over the fields).
The only solution is to completely reboot the machine.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
see above.

OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.32-5-686
Compiler: cc

Feel free to reopen the report if the problem still happens in recent versions ( KDE SC 4.8.4 or higher). Thanks.
