The crash is related to the FancyTasks third party widget. Try updating its package or recompiling it manually (if you installed manually)

>2. Recently added KDE 4.5 Factory to the repositories list.
- Do you mean 4.6 ? mixing 4.5 and 4.6.0 (your system) could cause some problems

Comment 3 Wizter 2011-02-14 10:36:37 UTC
I was running KDE 4.4 before adding the 4.5 repository and updating which messed things up, /repositories/KDE:/Release:/45/openSUSE_11.3/

Some of the packages, as you pointed out, are 4.6 but these were added afterwards in an attempt to solve the problem/crash already experienced with the 4.5. I was trying to update one minor version at a time and check that the system is stable before moving to the next (in theory that is!).

As I was unsuccessful with the 4.5 repo update, I added the the KDE factory repository (KDE:Distro:Factory) and updated my system to 4.6 to see if the crash would be fixed, at least as much as I could do from the console.

In the end I reverted the base KDE packages to 4.4 (as I had originally) and the environment seems as good as it was. A list of packages I reverted to 4.4 before getting a stable system again were:

kdeadmin, kdebase4, kdebase4-session, kde4-workspace, kdm, kwin, kdelibs4, kdelibs4-core, plasma-addons and their accompanying dependencies.

As such the system is up and running again as it was, so this bug could be considered solved.

FYI the laptop running the KDE environment is a Dell Inspiron 1520 with 1GB memory, Dual Core Intel T5250 Duo CPU @ 1.5GHz, Intel Mobile GM965/GL960 GFX chipset and an external Dell GU429 TFT attached.

Thanks for the information. Considering this a package installation mismatch due the failed attempts to upgrade on different reports I'm closing this as INVALID.
