Description Dennis Schridde 2011-01-28 11:07:57 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.6.0)
OS: Linux

I just disabled compositing (so I am allowed to set plasma-overlay background image), fired up the plasma-overlay preview/configuration screen (systemsettings -> screensaver -> configure plasmoids), right-clicked -> settings, and chose a wallpaper for the "image" background type.

However, the wallpaper is neither displayed in the preview nor on the real screen after clicking "apply".
Other background types, like "virus", "mandelbrot", "color" or "weather", display fine. "virus" and "weather" even display the same image as I chose in the "image" background type.

Reproducible: Always

Possibly useful information: Nvidia GeForce 7900 GS, nvidia-drivers-260.19.36, xorg-server-1.9.3.901-r1
Please ask for anything missing.

"Other background types [...] display fine" includes them displaying the preview correctly, as well as actually displaying on the background.

I recently had a similar issue with the desktop background: A 1900x1200px image did not show up (background was black) on my 1680x1050px screen when I set it to "scaled and cut". "scaled (keep proportions)", "scaled" and all other settings work.

Graphics card is a Radeon HD 5670 now, with xf86-video-ati-6.14.3, xorg-server-1.11.2-r2 and mesa-7.11.2 (Gentoo).

I assume this to be related, if not, I will open a new report on your request.

P.S: KDE 4.7.3 and Qt 4.7.4.
Comment 4 Gregor Tätzner 2012-05-27 10:20:46 UTC
is this still valid with kde 4.8.3 or trunk?
Comment 5 Dennis Schridde 2012-05-27 21:54:25 UTC
Persists in 4.8.3
Comment 6 Dennis Schridde 2012-05-27 22:05:00 UTC
Regarding the 1900x1200px image not showing up as desktop background: This time it showed for a split second, so I selected another image and switched back to the one that did not work, and now it is being displayed. Maybe some race condition when preparing the preview/cut/...? Compositing is enabled now and probably was also in comment #2.

Versions: x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati-6.14.4-r1, x11-base/xorg-server-1.12.1.902, media-libs/mesa-8.0.2

Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug is already resolved in Plasma 5.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham
