It's not clear to see where crash appear. Sound like digiKam debug package is missing.

Also try to run digiKam into GDB directly. Look there for details :

There is an exception thrown somewhere in a thread, so we dont see the real problem.

Please run digikam under gdb, catching the exception:
gdb digikam
catch throw
run

provoke the crash, then type
bt
and post the output here. Thanks!

Sorry, Marcel, either can I understand english good enough nor can I understand your request, as I am not an advanced programmer. What's "gdb" or "catching the exception"? I feel I cannot help you in finding out the bug I sent you. Excuse me.

No worries, it's really simple ;) Just open some terminal application (Konsole for example) and enter the commands posted by Marcel, starting with "gdb digikam", press enter, then type the next command and so on. Then just select everything in that terminal, copy it to clipboard and then paste here, that's all. It would be a really great help from you!

This problem is not reproducible with last 5.0.0.
