Description Alexander van Loon 2011-01-10 20:51:48 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.95)
OS: Linux

I’m using KMail 4.6 beta 3. I have a two IMAP accounts configured, my personal account a.vanloon@alexandervanloon.nl and a.vanloon@students.uu.nl which is a a GMail account.

If I send a message from a.vanloon@students.uu.nl to a.vanloon@alexandervanloon.nl and then check the message in the ‘sent-mail’ local folder, it will report that the message was not sent from the GMail account but from a.vanloon@alexandervanloon.nl. However, when I receive the message in my inbox of the address a.vanloon@alexandervanloon.nl, I see that it was in fact sent from a.vanloon@students.uu.nl

This means that KMail sends the e-mail properly from the right address as I tell it to, but then sent-mail reports incorrectly that it was sent from the other IMAP account for some reason.

Reproducible: Always

Hello

I cannot reproduce this bug. My kde environment is the following on opensuse 11.4

kde-devel@terietor-PC:~> kde4-config -v
Qt: 4.7.1
KDE Development Platform: 4.6.41 (4.7 >= 20110106)
kde4-config: 1.0

Please can you try to reproduce the bug into a newer version of kdepim?
Comment 2 Alexander van Loon 2011-05-15 23:19:45 UTC
I can still reproduce it. I use KDE version 4.6.2 and KDE PIM 4.6 beta 5 (updated Kubuntu 11.04 with the Kubuntu Experimental repository). I sent a message from a.vanloon@students.uu.nl to a.vanloon@alexandervanloon.nl, in the sent-mail folder it says incorrectly that it was send from a.vanloon@alexandervanloon.nl to a.vanloon@alexandervanloon.nl and in the inbox of that account it says correctly the message was sent from a.vanloon@students.uu.nl to a.vanloon@alexandervanloon.nl

You need to set up the "custom transport" option for each account.

Look in Advanced tab of each Identity you use in KMail's settings.

Thank you for your advice Alex. I assume this fixes it, but I think this is a serious flaw in the design of KMail. So far I had only one identity, now I need to make a second identity for the @students.uu.nl GMail account and set the custom transport. And then this setting for the custom transport is hidden in the Advanced tab.

I don't remember ever having an issue like this with other e-mail clients. AFAIK Evolution never had this strange separation between accounts and identities like KMail has, and the server settings for sending e-mail are 'linked' to the settings for receiving e-mail in the same account in other e-mail clients AFAIK. What KMail does is very confusing.

This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kmail2 (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.12 or later), it gets closed in about three months.
Comment 6 Denis Kurz 2017-01-07 22:49:19 UTC
Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
