Description Peter 2011-01-05 19:33:13 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.4)
OS: MS Windows

The installer functions improperly on windows 7, on all 3 machines I have tested it on so far.

When running the installer on Windows 7, without administrator permissions (as it never asks for this), the files get installed in the wrong directory (just the folder where the exe file is), and the user never even gets to see or choose the install path, only the extraction path. I don't know if it takes the extraction path or the default extraction path for the install, but this is surely not what should happen.

When running the installer as an administrator, things are better: one can choose the install folder and after doing this no problems arise. However, one has to specify the path manually, since the default value is NOT C:\Program Files\KDE x.x.x (which in my opinion it should be, and which it is on for example windows xp).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1) Buy (or obtain in a different way) windows 7 and install it.
2) I installed several programs (antivirus, dropbox, sandboxie, several drivers, ...) but this is probably not necessary.
3) Run the installer and proceed, you should see immediately what's wrong.

Actual Results:
The problems described arise.

Expected Results:
Selected the proper path automatically (with admin permissions) and at least letting me choose the path without admin permissions.

I just did a clean install today and non-admin worked exactly as admin. So, I guess part of it was problem with the cache that leaves behind when one only removes the folder in C:\Program Files.

The default folder is still not correct though.

This thing drives me crazy. I thought my clean install worked without admin privileges, but despite the fact that I did enter the correct directory, it seems that KDE has been installed in my download folder anyway, and not in Program Files. :-/

This is really strange. Can someone please test the installer's behavior under win7?
