Version: 0.2 (using KDE 4.5.1) OS: Linux I use sftp to edit files on a remote server. In the past, I never had any problems doing this. I now get error messages when attempting to save a file open in kate. Saving works well for a while, but then I keep getting error messages saying "Could not write to <filename>.part". I presume there is a problem with the underlying file operations using sftp. When trying "Save As" over sftp, the file dialog completely looks up and I have to kill kate. When restarting kate, everything works ok for a while and then the problem starts over again. I understand this is not a very specific and am happy to provide more information if I can. What I notices is that I get the following message when kate is started in the command line, not sure if this is related: kate(4517)/kio (KIOJob) KIO::TransferJob::slotMimetype: mimetype() emitted again, or after sending first data!; job URL = KUrl("....sftp link...") Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: open file over sftp, edit it and save it from time to time. OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.35-24-generic-pae Compiler: cc
I'm still getting this behavior with KDE 4.6.2 and Kate 3.6.2. I have a feeling that the sftp connection is timing out somehow, and not automatically reconnecting like it should.
Workaround: Refresh the file view in Dolphin twice. Open a new file from the remote directory. This will fail. Open the same new file again. It should open. Then your original file, which wouldn't save should save again.
Sounds like an issue with the connection, hence, reassign to kio.
Pascal, have you tried fish? Or other protocols?
Is this issue still relevant in more recent version of KDE (v4.10) or higher ?
