Version: 2.0.85 (using KDE 4.5.90) OS: Linux After saving a document the Save icon should be greyed out to indicate that no changes to the document have been made since last save. This isn't happening and the save icon is still clickable, though it shouldn't be. Reproducible: Always
Forwarding this to KatePart.
I can confirm this on openSuSE KDE 4.6 RC1. Happens with KWrite and Kate
Gave it a better title, also expanded upon it. Note that if you hold Ctrl-S for say....10 seconds...as a result of this the disk will start thrashing and katepart is I/O locked for ~2n. In other words, it will save the same a file a billion times over. Especially annoying with keyboards with high repeat rates & short delays.
This is by design, see bug #95849 and it's duplicate reports for more information. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 95849 ***
So you are stating the fact that it can *and will* save 20 times in a few seconds is a Good Design decision. I'm sorry, but this is nonsense. There should *at very least* be a repetition delay. While I can understand being able to save it whenever one wants, the *bug* that I stated is a slight divergence of that. I think you skimmed over the report and didn't fully understand it.
Why do you hold ctrl+s down for several seconds in the first place? I am not stating anything, I just pointed out this was reported already before, several times. This is all I will say on the matter. Christoph, or anyone else, please take care of this issue. I'm out of this. Sorry.
Can I chime in? If this is supposed to be a "feature" then it ought to be a "bug", since the behavior is inconsistent (and in the minority I assume). Also, looking at the other bug report, there was no good reason given as to why one might want to save an unmodified file besides being able to change the modified date. But that is hardly as good an argument as to NOT being able to save a modified file! (Also, there are other ways of changing the modified date if one so wishes.) Anyway, I can't see any reason for this behavior and it's not even consistent with other KDE applications.
