Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.4) OS: Linux After installing kpackagekit I set it to search for updates every hour. Then I logged out of KDE and back in, yet kpackagkit did not search for any updates. There might be three causes. It might only search for updates one hour after I set kpackagekit to check "hourly". In that case the first check should always happen right after setting it to hourly. It might be that because there never was a check before it waits for one hour after logging out and back in. In that case, if there was no check performed before, it should check for updates when the user logs in. It might be that kpackagekit does not have the proper right to check for updates. In that case it should prompt the user for the password and state: "I wanted to check for updates but I need root privileges." kpackagkit version is 0.6 Reproducible: Didn't try
Don't you have another package manager opened? It does ask you for a password if needed in order to refresh the cache.
I used YaST before, but kpackagekit only works after I established the cache once manually by clicking on "refresh". This should not be necessary. So the "refresh" works, but if there is nothing to refresh it does not ask for a password.
Hmm this seems to be a backend bug, file a bug against packagekit-backend-zypper since it works here, but as I don't use openSUSE I never had this issue. So does it refresh things periodically now? Best
Yes, after the first time it works. Does it work for you even for a new user?
