Version: 2.0.89 (using KDE 4.5.85) OS: Linux I have a PhD. In Germany this is very often used as a title (Dr.) information in one's name. E.g.: Dr. Ralph Moenchmeyer. I normally set my name in my Kmail identity to "Dr. Ralph Moenchmeyer". Kmail then leaves the "FROM" address field empty when sending mails via a smtp-server. This leads to an "unknown" sender in the receiving mail client. The reason is really the dot in "Dr.". As soon as I change my name in the Kmail identiy to "Dr Ralph Moenchmeyer" everything works normal and Kmail fills the FROM information as expected. This bug came with KDE 4.6 Beta. It is not present in KDE 4.5.3. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Use a Name in Kmails identity like "Dr. XXX". Then send a mail to your own account and have a look at the FROM information. Check the complete mail header As the From field of the mail is empty a receiving mail client as Kmail display an "unknown" sender. Actual Results: FROM information of the mail sent is empty. Expected Results: FROM adress should be filled with sender information.
Cannot reproduce using svn r1206971. Please reopen if you can using this or a later version.
Unfortunately the svn version is probably not available at Opensuse's factory repository. For the present rpm there the bug is reproducible. I shall upload some screenshots to avoid misunderstandings regarding the name field in the identity settings.
Created attachment 54834 [details] screenshots for test with identity containing a Dr-titel with dot
Created attachment 54835 [details] screenshots for test with identity including Dr-titel without dot (full stop)
Created attachment 54836 [details] Kmail inbox for both test mails
I have submitted now some screenshots which may explain better what I mean. The first zip-file (attachment id 54834) contains screenshots for a test in which I used Dr. Ralph Moenchmeyer as the (Sender) name within my identity. The screenshots show the Identity settings (see field "Your name"), the testmail and the header of the mail after receiving it (see the FROM information there). The second zip-file (attachment id 54835) contains screenshots for a test in which I used Dr Ralph Moenchmeyer as the (Sender) name within my identity. The last attachment (id 54836) shows the different mails in the mail list of Kmail (KDE 4.6 Beta2).
Yes that is what I tried. Btw I cannot reproduce using kmail-4.5.86svn1205247-6.1 from KDE:Unstable:SC (OpenSUSE) either.
(In reply to comment #7) > Yes that is what I tried. > Btw I cannot reproduce using kmail-4.5.86svn1205247-6.1 from KDE:Unstable:SC > (OpenSUSE) either. Thank you very much for trying again. First thing I must say is that I use a different "Factory" repository. Actually, I was not aware of the fact that there are different ones in the DISTRO and the UNSTABLE branches. Sorry. The repository I used is at http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Distro:/Factory/openSUSE_11.3 This repo contained the 4.5.85 version of Kmail I was complaining about - at least it did some days ago. Meanwhile Opensuse switched back to kmail-4.4.8-261.2.x86_64.rpm and to a Kontact 4.4.8 version in this Factory Repo together with a rollback of Akonadi. Other KDE programs and libs are at a 4.5.85 level. Why Suse went back to the 4.4.8 level of Kontact/Kmail in this repository I do not know. Propably because there were really many complaints in Opensuse's forums. The repository you use is at http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Unstable:/SC/openSUSE_Factory which contains kmail-4.5.86svn1205247-6.1.x86_64.rpm So to compare the same things I need to change my KDE repository to that of the UNSTABLE branch. I shall do that in January on a different machine. I have no time for experiments before that. We can keep the bug closed until then.
