Description m.wege 2010-12-12 13:04:22 UTC
Version: 2.0.89 (using KDE 4.5.85)
OS: Linux

When I want to select a folder to make it my favourite folder or select it during the creation of a filter, the dialogue can not be closed with a selection which means kmail can not be used anymore and that I have to kill and restart kmail.

Reproducible: Always

OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.37-7-generic-pae
Compiler: cc

I created a clean user account and added an IMAP Gmail account to KMail2. I could properly select a folder both when adding a favorite folder or during the filter configuration process.

Here using KDE SC 4.6beta2 (ArchLinux packages)

- Does your folder selection dialog get stuck or something that freezes the KMail input?

KMail input?

Kmail itselves continues to update folders and so. It is just the dialogue. I can start it by searching for a folder by typing the first letters. But then I can not continue to select that folder. The "cursor" itself stays on the Inbox. I can not go down/up to select that folder. Pressing enter, clicking on cancel or ok does nothing.

OK, trying to select the folder using only the keyboard is different
It seems that keyboard input is a *filter* so if you type the name of a folder that has subfolders, but the subfolders do not match the filter they won't appear.
This may be different to other "selection dialogs" in KDE where the keyboard input selects the folder/file, but don't filter (filtering out the folders/items that doesn't match)

- Is that what you are talking about ?

Somehow, yes. But to not confuse things, I really mean this happens in the dialogue for configuring a folder for a filter.
And it is something that worked fine in KDE PIM 4.4.8.

I believe I have an idea what causes this on my system. Unfortunately I not the trunk-runner so I can not check if the problem is resolved in trunk. After disabling Nepomuk, the folder selection-dialogue started to become usable again. Nepomuk as such was slowing down my system and Kmail2 very much so that I had to disable it. I know this is not a solution, but may in this case it would make sense if involving Nepomuk is really need in the dialogue. There are e.g. also folder tooltips which are also shown in this dialogue and hardly make any sense. On a slower system this surely could save some ressources.
