Comment 1 Ralf Engels 2010-12-10 16:13:38 UTC
Please go into more details.
Did you set the collection in the settings?
Did some kind of collection scanning occur?
Did this work before?
Comment 2 pablomoreno 2010-12-10 16:24:08 UTC
I have previously set the folder containing the music files as a collection
The program scans recursively reaching even 100% but does not find anything

Comment 3 Ralf Engels 2010-12-10 16:40:58 UTC
Do you have a previous version of Amarok installed together with the current one?
If this is the case, maybe the new Amarok is finding the old amarokcollectionscanner.

Can you please remove the old Amarok or at least move the amarokcollectionscanner of the old Amarok out of the path (or rename it).
Comment 4 pablomoreno 2010-12-10 17:28:00 UTC
I removed amarok then I deleted the old configuration files contained in
amarok
 / Home / USERNAME / .kde / share / apps /
 / Home / USERNAME / .kde / share / apps / config
and the corresponding files in / usr/share/kde4/etc ....
and then I tried to reinstall but I always have the same problem

for amarok collectionscanner do not know what I should do.

Forgive my horrible English

Comment 5 Ralf Engels 2010-12-11 18:26:43 UTC
Amarok is using an application called amarokcollectionscanner to do the actual scanning.
If the scanner crashes it can be restarted without corrupting Amarok itself.

You can also start the amarokcollectionscanner from the command line like this:
"amarokcollectionscanner -r ~/Music"

Can you do this and post the first couple of lines from the output here.

Thanks.
Comment 6 pablomoreno 2010-12-12 20:42:31 UTC
with the command "amarokcollectionscanner -r ~/Music"
I get this output

pablomoreno@pablomoreno-P5K:~$ amarokcollectionscanner -r ~/Music
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<scanner count="0">
    <!--Created by amarokcollectionscanner 2.3.90ondom dic 12 20:37:00
2010-->
</scanner>
pablomoreno@pablomoreno-P5K:~$

the program still does not find my collection.
Anyway, thanks for your help

Comment 9 Ralf Engels 2010-12-13 17:03:09 UTC
It looks like your collection directory is not world-readable which could cause problems.

We just tested it an this really seems to be the problem.
Amarok is forking itself during start and it might give away too many permissions.

You might try out starting amarok with the --nofork option or change the permissions of the music folders.

But it is still a bug and we need to fix it.
Comment 10 pablomoreno 2010-12-13 18:33:49 UTC
I tried with amarok - nofork not seem to work.
I also tried to give access permissions to the music folder for all users
but still no result.
Sorry for my English and thank you very much for your help.
Congratulations on your outstanding work

Comment 11 Ralf Engels 2010-12-14 12:33:55 UTC
How about the permissions of the tracks inside the folders? The following two lines will set the permissions in a "normal way".
Please note that Amarok should still work with your permissions. That is definitely a bug and would need to be solved.

find ~/Music -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;
find ~/Music -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;
Comment 12 pablomoreno 2010-12-14 12:49:00 UTC
I gave the commands you recommended but still nothing
I have given permissions to the folder in music as a picture:

Could you please check that you have the following packages installed:
libmysqlclient16
libmysqld-pic
mysql-common
mysql-server-core-5.1
mysql-client-core-5.1
Comment 14 pablomoreno 2010-12-14 18:31:31 UTC
Most of the packages you mentioned were not installed. Now I installed
amarok and finally recognized my collection.
Were only installed:
- libmysqlclient16
- mysql-common

but not the remaining

Thank you very much.

I just realized that by closing and reopening amarok loses again the
collection that had previously been recognized.
sin, I thought I had solved

Comment 16 Myriam Schweingruber 2010-12-14 20:49:12 UTC
Please report this downstream at Ubuntu as this is clearly a packaging error.
Comment 17 pablomoreno 2010-12-14 21:43:35 UTC
I do not know if the problem depends solely on the grounds of the Ubuntu
packaging because once you quit the program and then reopened the problem has
come back again and also doing a collection scanning was no longer view

Comment 18 Myriam Schweingruber 2010-12-14 22:48:51 UTC
Did you try with a new user?
Comment 19 pablomoreno 2010-12-15 09:53:41 UTC
I created a new user "ad hoc"and amarok works fine (I set the audio
collection main user), even restarting the collection is kept in memory.
Instead the main user is still not working

Comment 20 Myriam Schweingruber 2010-12-15 10:51:51 UTC
So this is a configuration problem. Please remove all the amarok* files in $HOME/.kde/share/config/, backup the $HOME/.kde/share/apps/amarok/ folder and then erase it as well. This will make you start with a new user profile. You can then copy back your podcast subscriptions if you have some.
Comment 21 pablomoreno 2010-12-15 11:37:18 UTC
It seems that at last I am born to solve the problem, of course only with
your help. So it was a packaging problem errrata if I understand, as
missing the
following packages:
libmysqlclient16
libmysqld-pic
mysql-common
mysql-server-core-5.1
mysql-client-core-5.1
(actually not all).
Thank you very much. Also reported this bug to take advantage of the program
(at least on gnome):
http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/5895/schermatalr.png
as seen missing icons in the menu on the panel.
An Italian user has manually resolved in this way and I wanted to report it
(maybe it solves the bug):
http://parliamodi-ubuntu.blogspot.com/2010/09/ritorno-su-amarok-232.html

thanks!
