Description berta 2010-12-04 12:33:23 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.1)
OS: Linux

I have this problem sometimes in Rekonq and KMail. Maybe it is in other apps bit i've not tested that.
Sometime if i klick in a textfield (e.g. the field for the url or the Searchfield (ctrl+f) in rekonq or the "To:" Field in KMail) and the field has been filled by the app, e.g. because the page in rekonq has been loaded, and i do a klick in the field there is no cursor an i can't see how i edit the text. The text is edited, i know this because the url i wrote is loading, but i can't see what i worte.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
It happens often random, but not always so i can't reproduce it.

The instalation of my system (Kubuntu 10.10) is fresh and i didn't change anything. Except the icon of rekonq by renaming and copieing the iconfiles of konqeror because i don't like the default one.
My Camputer is an Dell Latitude E6400 with 1g RAM, 80g HDD, and an P8400 Core2Duo

Are you using the Oxygen widget style?

Changing to the Plastique Style solves the Problem. Thank you for the hint!

Changing to Plastique took me here:
syslog:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dec 4 14:20:11 XXXXX kernel: [ 1418.412515] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung
Dec 4 14:20:11 XXXXX kernel: [ 1418.413182] [drm:i915_do_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_do_wait_request returns -5 (awaiting 64560 at 64264)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now I'm trying what Cleanlooks does to me ;-)

For me it seems, that it's more like a general graphics problem and not as I thought a problem coused by the Oxygen widget style.

Using Cleanlooks witget sytle also locks X with the same result in syslog. I can change to the console an reboot the system. The system is long enought useable to change the witget style. I can't say one which konditions X locks.

By now I disabled all special graphics effekts. This prevents the locking.

No response; assuming it was fixed since then.
