Updated version, 4.5.80.  All the addressbook folders that I created in the previous version are displayed, but no contacts appear within them.  This is so both in stand-alone kaddressbook and within kontact.

In KDE 4.6 KAddressBook allows you to enable/disable the address books whose content shall be shown, by clicking a checkbox in front of the folder names.

Works for me, too.  I simply hadn't seen the addition of the checkboxes.  Thanks for pointing them out.
