Description Michi 2010-11-23 18:44:11 UTC
Version: unspecified (using Devel)
OS: Linux

Although I have disabled Settings -> Misc -> Invitations -> Automatic Invitation Sending, everytime I accept an invitation a response is immediately sent.

Reproducible: Always

Fix Bug 257723 - Invitation replies are always sent immediately

In kmail2 it's not possible to not sent immediately.
So I hide it and close bug.

after having tried it for a couple of months I must say that I still don't fancy the proposed resolution. Actually, the behaviour is quite irritating, not just for me but also for my collegues.

The point is, I need to be able to decide whether and how I confirm an invitation. In that respect it is pretty much like those reception messages that people tend to expect sometimes. Funnily enough, those can be handled.

With invitations it's even more important though, since it is quite common to "haggle" something out over the invitation. This can't be done nicely with the current situation.

Please reconsider your previous decision, since there is a strong use case for intervening the message flow for calendar events.

I too find the current behavior a problem. In KMail-1, it was possible to add the invitation to the calendar, but not send the response. I need to do this, since Akonadi still does not have an exchange connector. Thus to get invitations on my phone, I need to let Android accept the invitation, which puts it into my exchange calendar. I then want to accept the invitation into KOrganizer, so I also get it onto my desktop calendar. With automatic sending of responses, the originator gets two responses.

This may be a KOrganizer issue, as there may be relationship to bug 310889.

So what is missing in kmail2 (tested with KDE 4.10) is an option in the mail body of .ics attachments: "Add to my calendar" (without sending any reply email)

or at least to edit the reply message.

Btw. when I decline an appointment then I get a window with a text edit field where I _can_ enter a message to the inviting person. So I pretty much doubt that comment #6 was 100% correct.

not really a KMail bug. adding Sergio to the CC since he's doing a lot of improvements to the invitation support
Comment 12 Denis Kurz 2016-09-24 18:45:05 UTC
This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of korganizer (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.08 or later), it gets closed in about three months.
Comment 13 Michi 2016-09-25 06:28:06 UTC
(In reply to Denis Kurz from comment #12)
it's even worse now. The only action shown in an invitation now is "check my calender" which only opens the korganizer; I would expect to see a marker where the event would be, but see nothing.

but back to the original problem, since I can't reply at all, there's no way how "replies are always sent immediately" - bug resolved ;-)
