Description Andreas K. Huettel 2010-11-21 22:54:53 UTC
Using kde-4.5.3 gentoo packages with the patch from bug 249976 added.

I run

kompare dir1 dir2

and often get a dialog about a malformed patch :(. Afterwards things seem to work ok, the differences are displayed properly afaik. It seems like some corner cases are still missing.

To reproduce the exact conditions, for example: * download
http://distfiles.gentoo.org/distfiles/krecipes-2.0-beta1.tar.gz
http://distfiles.gentoo.org/distfiles/krecipes-2.0-beta2.tar.gz
* unpack both
* compare the resulting dirs:
kompare krecipes-2.0-beta1 krecipes-2.0-beta2

What can I do to help confirm this?

If I do a diff by hand AND strip out any lines that begin with "Binary files" or "Only in", and then pass the diff through to kompare, the error message goes away.

The other positive side-effect of stripping out those two diff messages is that Bug 347760 (which reappears whenever this message also appears) goes away, and you can actually apply the diff to the destination.

Oops. I should also give versions. I'm using up-to-date FC23, which gives:

kompare: 15.08.1,
kde-runtime-libs: 15.12.1

As the maintainer of Kompare, I do not see what would have fixed this, so let us not forget about the issue, even if it makes the statistics look less good.
