Description benni 2010-11-21 19:51:14 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.3)
OS: Linux

I have a dream!
If someone (like me) has got enough RAM it should be possible to have the OSX User Experience within KDE!
I know Linux chaches everything it can get, but as a Linux desktop user it's much more important that GUI Toolkits and hopefully all programs are in RAM!

My wish consists of a few smaller wishes:
1. Fast Login: KDM should begin to load KDE Desktop, plasma, kwin, etc.
2. Fast apps: Not only copy actually needed things to RAM. Instead I want whole KDE Libs and Qt and a custom list of programs in RAM. For instance: After KDE start I often open and close and launch new instances of many many K-apps (dolphin, konq, rekonq, kile, amarok, digikam, kopete, whole kontact ......) sometimes it's fast, but often I can hear my disk working and working...

Nowadays it should be really possible with 4-8gig of RAM!

Reproducible: Didn't try

Not sure this is really relevant anymore due to hardware improvements in the interim. Even beyond hardware improvements, startup/login/launch times have improved a lot recently.
