Description Gard Spreemann 2010-11-20 01:01:55 UTC
Version: SVN (using Devel)
OS: Linux

When generating an OTR key, a dialog box with the text "Please wait while generating the private key" is displayed. Generating an OTR key can take a long time, 5-10 minutes in some cases (is this due to entropy collection?). With little CPU work taking place, a user may easily think the program has hung (see for example bug #237050 ). I suggest adding some informative text to the dialog, such as "Generating a key can take as long as 5-10 minutes".

If the time taken really is due to entropy collection, one might also want to add something like "Kopete needs to gather random data from your mouse and keyboard activity, so continue working normally for a few minutes while the key is generated".

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
The message mentioned is displayed every time a key is generated. It seems that generation takes a long time, at least for the first key, which is when a more explanatory message would be nice.

Actual Results:
Uninformative text is displayed.

Expected Results:
Text should inform the user that key generation can take a long time, and that one shouldn't think the program has hung.
