Description Wonko 2010-11-11 17:28:38 UTC
Version: 1.6.5 (using KDE 4.5.3)
OS: Linux

I sort the articles from oldest to newest. When I change the feed, the list of articles is scrolled to a random position. The scrollbar is at the top sometimes, but sometimes at the bottom, and sometimes somewhere between. I do not see a consistency there.

What I would like is to happen is that the list of articles would be scrolled as far down as possible, but the oldest unread article should be visible. And maybe also the last one read. So I see what is new, and I can decide if I want to read it now, or later.

At the moment, I often have to scroll down the whole list to see which new articles I have. I can press the '+' button to read the first unread article. The article is now centered in the list view, which is also okay. The only problem with this is that now I already have the new article displayed and marked read, but sometimes I only want to see what new articles there are, and then decide if I want to actually read them or or not.

Another nice idea would be to remember the position for each feed individually. So when I switch from feed A to B, and back to A, I am in the same position as when I left A. This is somewhat similar to bug #102266, but I do not want to have the article selected and displayed when I only switch the feed. But if it were like this, I wouldn't mind.

I hope this makes sense for you. I just discovered akregator, never used it before, and I really like it! It already changed some of my habits, I no longer view webcomics in the browser, and many other news sources were moved from browser tabs into akregator feeds. But there are some things that could, in my opinion, be improved, to make akregator even better.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Just switch between feeds.

Actual Results:
The position in the article list is random.

Expected Results:
I'd expect the position to be the one I had when I visited the feed the last time, or in a way that the new items are displayed.

Oh, and yet another thing I would like: Some sites are too wide to be displayed in the akregator window, I have to scroll the page a little to the left (that is, scroll the scroll bar to the right) to be able to read the article. This often happens with blogs that have some index in the left column. It would be _really_ _cool_ if the horizontal position of an article could be remembered, so when I select another article of this feed, I do not again have to scroll again.

Should this wish be filed seperately? Or is this already too exorbitant, when one could also just maek the window a little wider? But this would not fit so well into my current desktop concept. Maybe if you KDE guys wouln't have made KDE so extremely configurable, these kinds of wishes would not appear :)

Thank you for the bug report.

As this report hasn't seen any changes in 5 years or more, we ask if you can please confirm that the issue still persists.

If this bug is no longer persisting or relevant please change the status to resolved.

Since I do not use KDE any more since long (pity!), I can't confirm anything. But I assume the current version does not have much in common with what I was using anyway, and will handle it better. Let's resolve this.

Feel free to change the resolution - I did not want to choose Fixed, as I do not know if this has been specifically fixed.
