Description chepioq 2010-11-06 21:28:23 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.2)
OS: Linux

I enable by default numlock in configuration setting and that work, when I login my keypad is enable.
But the led of my keypad is off, and when I press the NM-LOCK touch, led is enable but my keypad is off.

Reproducible: Always

I can confirm this bug, the LED works inversed if num lock is turned on automatically at KDE start.
Comment 2 Andriy Rysin 2010-12-04 22:50:13 UTC
does numlockx utility work for you correctly?
Comment 3 Andriy Rysin 2010-12-04 22:51:07 UTC
could you please also check that nothing else is trying to set numlock state when X is starting?
Comment 4 chepioq 2010-12-05 07:30:56 UTC
I think that bug is fixed with kde 4.5.80.
I test fedora rawhide (with kde 4.5.80), and when num lock is turned on automatically at KDE start, led is on.

I am running Kubuntu x64, have upgraded to KDE4 4.5.80 now. The problem still persists, if I tell the system settings to leave num lock unchanged and then try with numlockx, I can turn num lock on, but the LED stays off. I don't know how to test if anything else fiddles with the numlock settings.

I mean, the problem persists using the system settings, and the problemalso exists when using numlockx.

Before enable num lock automatically at Kde start, I test numlockx 1.0-18, but it don't work (no effect and no led).
I post a bug on fedora bugzilla (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=614543 ).
I also test numlockx 1.2, it work with no led effect...

Thanks, from my observations there's something really fishy with numlock in recent x.org
Just a mere fact that simple numlockx is ~300 lines long just to set a flag tells the story pretty well. So I am afraid I can help much from KDE side unless downstream will be fixed.

Hi.
Fedora 14. KDE 4.5.4.
Bug present only in user session. If I log off from session, then numlock led and numlock function works fine, i.e. just disabled led and numeric keyboard part.

I tested KDE 4.6.0 both in Fedora 14 and 15 but no problem with LED in Fedora 15 maybe because of new xorg-x11-server 1.9.99 (1.9.4 in Fedora 14).

It seems to be related to (reopened) x.org bug https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16145
