Description davidblunkett 2010-11-04 11:23:52 UTC
Version:           0.10.4 (using KDE 4.4.4)
OS:                Linux

Okular can report trivial errors at the console at inconvenient times. For instance if I start okular from the command line in a shell thus: okular myfile.pdf & and then compile the latex file myfile.tex file.pdf in absent for a short period and okular files the screen with errors.

This is somewhat antisocial and make it impossible to read the Latex output.

Here is an example of the mess it produces:
? Error: PDF file is damaged - attempting to reconstruct xref table...
Error: Couldn't find trailer dictionary
Error: Couldn't read xref table
okular(7457)/kio (KDirWatch) KDirWatchPrivate::removeEntry: doesn't know "myfile"
Error: PDF file is damaged - attempting to reconstruct xref table...
Error: Couldn't find trailer dictionary

qokular(7457)/kio (KDirWatch) KDirWatchPrivate::removeEntry: doesn't know "myfile"
and so on

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
run okular from a shell in the background, compile so latex that removes the target file and a screen full of nonse follows

Actual Results:
? Error: PDF file is damaged - attempting to reconstruct xref table...

Expected Results:
Nothing, okular should bear this temporary absence of the file with good grace like kpdf and xdvi.

Can I ask why you closed this as won't fix? You are not a Okular devel so I don't see why you should decide on this.
Comment 2 davidblunkett 2011-08-23 17:20:37 UTC
I reported it, nothing has happened for a year so I'm closing it. Don't get shirty, reopen it if you feel strongly enough to do something about it!
Comment 3 Pino Toscano 2011-08-23 17:43:19 UTC
Clarifying the resolution, as the reporter withdrawn the bug.
Comment 4 Albert Astals Cid 2011-08-23 18:14:54 UTC
@David: Unluckily we do not have infinite time, so a bug being not worked does not mean it is not a valid bug, it just means it is not our priority. But ei, if you think closing the bug you will say "See i am upset and so i close my bug because you ignored me", it is all up to you.
Comment 5 davidblunkett 2011-08-23 20:20:40 UTC
Actually I just wanted to clear up a number of redundant and old bug reports, this is one of several I cleared up today. As I said reopen it if you want to, I'm not bothered about it any more.

I think the okular maintainers are the least well tempered I've encountered in KDE, please stop griping.
