Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.2) OS: Linux My system is hopelessly broken after applying the November updates this morning. A number of packages were upgraded but quite a number of important ones (kdm, kdebase-*, kdebase-* plasma-* e.t.c.) were removed during the upgrade. When I attempt to manually reinstall the removed packages I get an error "Depends: [package] (>= 4:4.5.3) but 4:4.5.2[*] is to be installed" for several packages. I have not changes my software sources. I believe this is a severe problem! Reproducible: Didn't try
More information: the packages in the "Depends: [package] (>= 4:4.5.3) but 4:4.5.2[*] is to be installed" error are: libkio5 libwineffects1a libworkspace4 libplasma3 kfind konsole libkonq5 plasma-widget-folderview konqueror-nsplugins libkfile4 libplasmagenericshell4 libweather-ion5
Reproducibility: I am experiencing this bug in both my desktop and laptop.
By "hopelessly broken" I mean kdm/kde is unable to start; the splash screen runs perpetually.
Another source https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/+bug/670788 says this is a packaging error and not truly a KDE bug.
Their suggested solution is to downgrade to 4.5.1: sudo ppa-purge ppa:kubuntu-ppa/ppa (you may need to 'sudo apt-get install ppa-purge' first) sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop
I can confirm that: sudo apt-get install ppa-purge (if you didn't already have it installed) sudo ppa-purge ppa:kubuntu-ppa/ppa sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop sudo rm -rf /tmp/kde* sudo rm -rf /var/tmp/kdecache* results in a working KDE 4.5.1.
